Puzzle Mats

Puzzle mats are a versatile solution for floor protection and comfort and are commonly used in different sports and fitness environments. Two popular types are tatami mats and PVC puzzle mats, each with their own benefits and applications.

Tatami mats, traditionally from Japan, are widely used in martial arts such as judo, karate and aikido. These mats are designed to absorb falls and minimise injuries, making them ideal for sports where falls and throws are common. Tatami mats are usually made from rice straw and covered with woven rush or synthetic materials, creating a firm yet resilient surface. Their unique structure provides good grip, which is important for the safety and performance of practitioners. They also give a dojo an authentic feel and contribute to the traditional atmosphere of martial arts training.

PVC puzzle mats, on the other hand, are often used in fitness environments such as CrossFit, Hyrox and other intensive training programmes. These mats are usually made from durable foam or rubber and are designed to withstand heavy impact, making them suitable for reducing noise and vibrations when weights are dropped. They also provide a comfortable surface for exercises such as burpees, sit-ups and planks. The puzzle structure makes the mats easy to install and adapt to different spaces, and they can be cleaned easily, which is important for hygiene in fitness environments.

Both types of puzzle mats provide excellent floor protection, whether protecting a wooden dojo floor from martial arts training or a concrete gym floor from the heavy load of fitness equipment. By choosing the right mats for your specific sport or fitness needs, you can extend the life of your floor and create a safer and more comfortable environment for every workout.
