Whether you are throwing fast jab-cross-hook combinations on the focus mitts, heavy punches on the strike pads, or hard sparring rounds with a head guard and groin protection, properly wrapped boxing hand wraps keep your wrist in a natural line, protect your knuckles from impact and absorb sweat so your boxing gloves stay fresh. At NRG Fitness you will find everything from short children's wraps for first lessons to professional elastic hand wraps of 4.5 metres for competitive fighters. Which Hand Wraps Suit You?
✔ 2–2.5 m – compact for young athletes, small hands and technique drills.
✔ 3–3.5 m – versatile length for recreational athletes and an average hand circumference.
✔ 4–4.5 m – allows extra cross-wraps around the wrist and knuckles; a favourite for heavy hitters, Muay Thai clinchers and intensive sparring.
Not sure? Measure the circumference of your hand just above the thumb. If it is under 20 cm, start with 2.5 m. Between 20-23 cm, 3.5 m is ideal. Above 23 cm, or if you want maximum stability, choose 4.5 m.
Care & Lifespan
Rinse your boxing hand wraps in cold water immediately after training or wash them in a laundry bag at 30 °C without fabric softener. Then hang them to dry – never use a tumble dryer. This helps them retain their elasticity, last up to nine months and keeps the hook-and-loop closure secure.
Combine Hand Wraps with Your Other Combat Sports Gear
Complete your protection by adding head guards, groin protection and strike pads to your basket together with your hand wraps. Everything in one order means one delivery and one return period – simple and convenient.
FAQ – Everything About Hand Wraps
What are hand wraps for?
Hand wraps distribute impact across the whole hand, reduce wrist strain and help prevent skin or bone damage around the knuckles. They also absorb sweat, so your gloves wear out or start smelling less quickly.
How long should your hand wraps be?
Choose based on hand size and the support you want: 2.5 m for young athletes and technique drills, 3–3.5 m for all-round training and 4–4.5 m for competition level or extra wrist support.
What size hand wraps do I need?
Hand wraps have a standard width of approximately 5 cm. The effective size is determined by the length: shorter for narrow hands, longer for athletic hands or if you want to add extra layers.
How do you roll up and wrap hand wraps correctly?
Start with the thumb loop, wrap three times around the wrist, cross over the palm, make one pass between each finger and finish with the hook-and-loop fastening at the wrist. After use, roll them tightly from the hook-and-loop side so they are neat for next time.
How tight should a boxing hand wrap be?
The wrap should be tight enough not to move, but you should still be able to make a fist without tingling. If your fingers feel numb, wrap a little more loosely.
Can you wash hand wraps and how?
Yes. Wash them after every session in a laundry bag at 30 °C, without fabric softener. Hang them to dry afterwards – heat can damage the elastic fibres.
How long does a hand wrap last?
With three training sessions per week, approximately 6–9 months. If you see fraying, a loose hook-and-loop fastening or loss of elasticity, it is time to replace them.
Why tape your hands for boxing if you already use hand wraps?
In competitions or for extra sensitivity, some people choose sports tape over the hand wraps for extra knuckle padding and wrist compression. For everyday training, a good elastic hand wrap is usually more than enough.
